Traditional Evolution- Hot 2013 Wedding Gown Trend

The 2013 wedding gown trend seems to have transformed traditional and classic styles into modern eye-catching masterpieces. The wedding gown designers have certainly raised their bar this season and I am very excited. Here are some of the hottest trends we see on the runway that is sure to make you want to zero in on your target even before he proposes…

Trend 1: Feathers
Feathers are a very a popular addition to many luxurious weddings today and it is no surprise that many brides want to incorporate this into their wedding gown designs. Designers are listening, a sizzling 2013 wedding trend features fairy tale like gowns with dramatic trains that incorporate feathers. I’ve also seen sleek silhouettes with delicate feather detail on the bodice. Think great Gatsby and the art deco era.

Trend 2: Ornate
Ornate bodices or full-fledged all over crystal beading graced the runways this season. If you decide to wear a full beaded/crystal gown, make sure your 2013 wedding theme ties into this appropriately. Remember, glitz and glamour is formal. From invitation to wedding favors, everything should reflect this look. Don’t wear a full crystal gown for a mid-day wedding, all of the sparkly details won’t show up in out-door wedding pictures and to be completely honest, the gown will seem out of place…

Trend 3: Long Sleeves
Ever since the Duchess of Cambridge graced the cover of magazines with her long sleeved wedding dress, people have been obsessed. This look screams classic sophistication with a modern twist. Top wedding gown designers like Oscar De La Renta, Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier, Elie Saab and many others this season have graced us with sheer fabrics such as stretch tulle or lace adorned with intricate beading, appliques and embroidery to create a stunning “tattoo” like effect. What I love most about this 2013 wedding gown trend is that although you may be covered from head to toe in fabric, the look is far from old fashion or what I call the “granny look”

Trend 4: Illusion Backs
This was certainly a hot trend in 2012 and I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will be a mainstay. I love this look. Your wedding guests will be looking at you from every angle during your ceremony why not give them something beautiful and unique to look at? This 2013 wedding gown trend includes stretched sheer back with lace, embroidery and appliques this look is not only sexy, it is also modest and totally appropriate for a full church wedding, just make sure that the lace back does not go too far…

Trend 5: Tulle
Let there be tulle. Designers have gone nuts this season for layers upon layers of tulle. What I love most about this 2013 wedding gown trend is that tulle has a light airy feel and wedding gown designers love it too, no wonder it is the official fabric for fairies and princesses. Designers like Asale and Theia updated this look with narrow silhouettes while adding tons of layers of shredded tulle for a more dramatic 3-dimensional look.

Trend 6: Off The Shoulder
We must give homage to fashion designer Ms. Donna Karen for introducing us to the “cold shoulder” dress in the 80′s. This look allows women to show off just a little without being inappropriate. This season, designers like Carolina Herrera, Lela Rose and Marchesa have connected with their higher Donna Karen selves in this 2013 wedding gown trend to create stunning shapes that either defied gravity or just gave us a peek of what being sexy embodies. This look is flattering to most body types and can be worn for both a formal and or informal wedding. For more Wedding trends click here
